Overview
This course equips professionals with the knowledge and tools to critically assess artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in Africa and its implications for sustainable development, inclusive growth, and fair competition. Through an interdisciplinary lens, students explore AI technologies, data economies, labour markets, governance frameworks, and sectoral transformation across the African context. The course emphasises ethical, regulatory, and economic considerations, enabling participants to evaluate AI systems for fairness, accountability, and public value. Using case studies and a policy-focused hackathon, students develop practical skills to balance innovation with regulation and contribute meaningfully to Africa's emerging AI ecosystem. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.
