Overview
This short course develops capacity in understanding the evidence-base for approaches (e.g. advocacy, social mobilization, edutainment and social marketing) that aim to influence the social and behavioural determinants of health. The course addresses the principles and processes for each approach and presents applications to current health and development issues.
Duration
Six weeks, including 1 week face to face (May 12-16) and 5 weeks of self-directed study

    The course will be hosted face-to-face at the Wits School of Public Health in Johannesburg, South Africa, where participants will engage with colleagues, scholars and thought leaders from across the African continent. They will also have access to an online platform with learning resources they can draw upon beyond the course. 


    The course content addresses the following topics:


    • In-depth and critical exploration of key SBC approaches ranging from those grounded in participatory approaches like forum theatre to the latest AI applications
    • Opportunities to engage with and explore approaches like human-centred design with practitioners
    • Skills-building sessions on approach selection and prioritization
    • Skills-building sessions on how programmers and researchers can work with creatives
