Overview
This course introduces the principles and applications of precision medicine and biomedical informatics, with a focus on the African healthcare context. Participants will explore human genetics, multi-omics technologies, bioinformatics, health data ecosystems, and emerging digital health innovations such as artificial intelligence and natural language processing. The course examines how biomedical data can improve clinical decision-making, public health outcomes, and personalised healthcare. Participants will also evaluate ethical, legal, governance, and equity considerations associated with precision medicine, gaining the knowledge needed to assess its opportunities and challenges in African healthcare systems. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.
