    Course Overview 

    This short course is designed to equip senior staff in local government with practical and professional skills to promote efficient, accountable, equitable, and sustainable management of South Africa's public finances. This course is an indispensable resource for advancing your knowledge and skills at Africa's leading School of Governance. 


    What can you expect from the course

    • You will be able to implement financial controls and manage risk within the local government context, as well as manage all aspects of the municipal budgeting system, including implementation.
    • Graduates will be able to manage stakeholder relations effectively, the strategic planning process, and how to align implementation policy and performance management procedure with overall local and national government strategies.
    • We will cover key principles of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and link important SCM regulations to municipal services delivery. Graduates will be able to prepare regular reports on financial position, financial performance, and cash flow statements, and manage a municipality's assets and liabilities through an application of internal controls.
    • You will learn the importance of having IT controls, a risk-based plan, and a rescue plan, as well as how to apply the principles of project management to run successful projects.


    Course Format & Duration

    • There are eight modules which are delivered over 8 months in a block release format.
    • Participants will be required to attend class for 3 days a week, once a month, over a period of 8 months.
    • Travel and accommodation will be at the cost of the student's personal or respective orgnaisation costs.
