Overview
This intensive two-day short course provides a critical foundation for healthcare professionals involved in the preparation of oncology medication. Designed to align with regulatory and safety standards, the course introduces participants to the essential principles and practices of aseptic technique, with a particular focus on handling chemotherapy agents. Through a combination of 8 hours of lectures and 6 hours of practical training, students explore sterile preparation requirements, laminar airflow cabinet use, safe drug reconstitution, and intravenous admixture techniques. Additional content covers administration systems, waste disposal, spill control, quality control, and accurate documentation of critical processes. Participants gain hands-on experience in gowning, scrubbing, and preparing laminar flow hoods while building awareness of safety protocols in oncology pharmacy. The course is ideal for pharmacists, pharmacist interns, nurses, doctors, and post-basic pharmacist assistants who are authorised to handle oncology products within their scope of practice. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.

    Course reviews

    • MAP was a great introduction to the commercial side of the business for a health professional like myself. I am now able to identify and leverage synergies between my department and others in the organisation. Because of the diversity and calibre of its students, WBS has helped me increase my network and I have recommended MAP to a number of my colleagues. It was an investment worth more than the rand value of the course – and motivated me to do my MBA!

    • Doing NMP with WBS has provided me with the basic and highly valuable skills as I prepare myself for a leadership role within my organisation. The programme had practical examples which I could relate to my real situation at work.
