    The course is divided into four major areas:


    1.  Mining Engineering

    This area covers all the mining engineering topics such as mining terminology and methods, mining geology, mechanical excavation, drilling and blasting, mine transportation, mine ventilation and the operational environment, rock mechanics and rock engineering, mine surveying and computerised mine design.


    2.  Mining Economics

    This area covers mineral economics and mine planning.


    3.  Sustainability and Regulatory Matters

    This area covers sustainable development, mine health and safety, legal and industry regulation, compliance and reporting.


    4.  Research Methods

    This area covers research planning and writing, research methods and critical thinking and library use and research ethics.
