Introduction to Geostatistical Methods in Mineral Evaluation (MRM 14)

Overview

This course introduces the fundamental principles and practical application of geostatistics in mineral evaluation. Participants will learn how to analyse spatial data, assess data quality, construct and interpret variograms, and apply kriging techniques for mineral grade estimation. The course explores anisotropy, uncertainty analysis, and basic simulation methods to support transparent and defensible resource evaluation. Participants will also develop the skills to interpret geostatistical results and communicate their implications for mineral resource reporting and decision-making. The course provides an essential foundation for responsible mineral resource management in the mining industry. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.
