Overview
This course introduces the fundamental principles and practical methods of geostatistics applied to mineral evaluation. Participants develop the ability to analyse spatial data, construct and interpret variograms, model anisotropy, and apply kriging techniques for grade estimation. Emphasis is placed on understanding estimation variance, uncertainty, and the responsible communication of results to support transparent and defensible resource reporting. Through applied exercises and real-world mining contexts, the course strengthens both conceptual insight and technical competence. It is designed to enhance decision-making in mineral resource management and promote sound, evidence-based evaluation practices in the mining industry. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.

    Course reviews

    • MAP was a great introduction to the commercial side of the business for a health professional like myself. I am now able to identify and leverage synergies between my department and others in the organisation. Because of the diversity and calibre of its students, WBS has helped me increase my network and I have recommended MAP to a number of my colleagues. It was an investment worth more than the rand value of the course – and motivated me to do my MBA!
