Overview
This course aims to provide The South African Pharmacy Council approved supplementary training and education to pharmacists in immunisation and injection technique.

10 Weeks (5 weekly online sessions, study time and a two-day practical session)

    This is a stand alone course on the administration of injections and immunisations. This includes vaccinations as per the EPI (Expanded Programme on Immunisation), the annual flu vaccination, and other injections (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections on prescription from an authorised prescriber for patients who request this service from the pharmacist)


    The course content addresses the following topics:


    • Selection of PPE and consumables for the administration of injections and immunisation
    • Vaccine hesitancy, patient counselling and informed consent
    • Selection of the correct site and the appropriate route of administration for injections and immunisations
    • Common and severe adverse drug reactions, adverse drug reaction reporting and the management of anaphylaxis resulting from injections and immunisations
    • Current immunisation guidelines
    • Vaccine logistics including waste disposal, cold chain and data recording in line with local, regional and national guidelines and
    • Practical experience in administering injections and immunisations
