Overview
The course aims to develop English language skills for foreign language speakers who are starting to learn English. It includes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills as well as grammar and vocabulary at a high B1 level on the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) for languages.

    The course content addresses the following topics:

    • Writing short texts such as an email, a story or correspondences
    • Expressing purpose with the infinitives
    • Giving short answers: verb phrases and time clauses
    • Making hypothetical statements with first conditional
    • Using compound nouns appropriately in context
    • Using prepositions in time expressions correctly
    • Using comparatives and superlatives with 'as ... as', 'less ... than' and 'ever' with the present perfect tense
    • Using present and past continuous and perfect tenses; 'for' and 'since' in the present perfect tense 
    • Forming questions with all the tenses using wh- and yes/no questions
    • 'have' vs 'have got' and 'have got to', 'should' and 'must'
    • Using verb patterns including 'want', 'hope', 'enjoy' and 'like'
    • 'be going to' vs 'will'
    • Distinguishing -ing and -ed adjectives
    • Identifying the main and modal auxiliaries
    • Distinguishing between related conjunctions: 'but' and 'however', 'while', 'during' and 'for'
    • Distinguishing between 'a few', 'a little' and 'a lot of'
    • Using the definite and indefinite articles ('the' and 'a/an') correctly
    • Using correct punctuation: commas, full stops, question marks, captial letters, exclamation marks, hyphens, semi-colons and inverted commas
    • Identifying suffixes used to make different parts of speech
    • Identifying prefixes used to form the negative
    • Identifying parts of speech: adjectives and prepositions
    • Identifying and using synonyms and antonyms
    • Using the time clauses with 'when' and 'as soon as'
