- Themes: personality, work, conflict, books, movies, money, technology, art, health and medicine, travel and tourism, animals, food
- Writing: article, brochure, notice, message, formal and informal letters, report, proposal, review, instructions, directions, competition entry, information sheet, memo, interpreting graphs and diagrams
- Speaking: three-way conversations between students and teacher, two-way interactions between students, unprepared short speech
- Grammar: conditionals, prepositions, adverbials expressing opinion, 'wish' and 'if only', 'it's time', 'would rather/sooner', modals, relative clauses, phrasal verbs, cause and effect
- Vocabulary: collocations, idioms, chunks, word endings, register, multiple meanings
