    The course content addresses the following topics:

    • Understanding what critical thinking is
    • Distinguishing between argument and disagreement
    • Distinguish between fact and opinion
    • Identifying argument and checking for clarity and consistency
    • Identify logic and consistency in arguments
    • Identifying flaws in arguments
    • Recognising underlying assumptions and implicit arguments
    • Developing strategies for identifying reasons, conclusions, and arguments in written and oral texts
    • Recognising forms of non-argument such as summaries, explanations, and descriptions
    • Identifying cause and effect and cause-and-effect connectors
    • Noun clauses, adjective phrases, quantifiers, contrast and concession connectors, passive voice, parallel structure and ellipsis
