Overview
This advanced short course develops critical thinking and applied research capability in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practice within the mining sector. Using theory, evidence, and real-world case studies, the course strengthens practitioners' ability to analyse complex safety challenges, understand human behaviour, and apply systems thinking to improve OHS outcomes. Participants build practical skills in literature searching, applied research design, academic writing, and effective communication to support evidence-based decision making. The course is designed to enhance the influence and impact of experienced mine OHS practitioners, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to organisational learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement in mine health and safety practice. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.
