Overview
This course equips legal professionals, compliance officers, and information managers with a comprehensive understanding of the legal and policy framework surrounding the rights to privacy and access to information in South Africa. It unpacks the constitutional foundations of both rights, the statutory context of POPIA and PAIA, and the impact of international standards like the GDPR. Students will explore lawful data processing, privacy protection, and cross-border data transfers, while evaluating legal cases such as the Amabhungane judgment. The course addresses how the rights to privacy and access to information can operate together in democratic governance. This course is ideal for law graduates or professionals with relevant legal or compliance experience. A quality-assured certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand is issued on successful completion.
